Deliberate Transformation:

Designing a Culture of Innovation and REAL Innovation Outcomes

The Challenge

A New Jersey-based manufacturer was tasked by their new CEO to build a "culture of innovation." Specifically, he required that they build a repeatable innovation process and were given a deadline of 12 months.

The Approach

After assessing the state of innovation readiness and gaining conspicuous leadership support, we co-developed a framework and trained 2 "classes" of innovation champions. The new champions co-delivered with an external training partner several problem solving workshops focused on internal business challenges.

The Outcome

The resulting solutions / experiments were reviewed by an internal governance committee and provided funding and support. The champions remained and began to internally freelance on other innovation challenges.

The Results

The initial launch of the program was widely considered a success. Five of the workshops produced solutions that were incorporated into their business plans for the following year.

The longer-term benefit was the development of subsequent waves of champions and a thriving network of champions and projects.
